But without being a top tech company, how do you attract talented candidates? The investment in obtaining a new hire can be difficult for some organizations. Consequently, they prefer when a new employee is a hard worker, fits within the culture and stays for the long run. However, a study by Bamboo HR reported that 31% of 1000 respondents quit a job within six months of starting it. Reasons vary from ill-defined responsibilities to lack of training.

Despite the processes HR needs to implement, IT can help adjust onboarders in 3 ways.

1. Onboarding Feature that integrates with HR

Usually you would want a new employee ready for work within the first few weeks of the job. However, why can’t the employee be ready from their first day? Some argue that this isn’t possible. These people don’t know the capabilities of an IT solution with on-boarding features. Selective IT solutions integrate with HR so everything required for the new hire can be distributed with the click of one button. For example, HR needs to request a new desk, chair, computer, mouse, access to certain documentation, the Microsoft suite, and set up a phone number. Instead of creating new tickets of the same tasks for every employee, IT systems are set up in advance so all the requirements are sent to IT when HR is ready. Consequently, IT can distribute them automatically with no delay.

2. Accessible Knowledge Base

As a new employee starts using the equipment, it may be very unclear as to how processes are execute or even how anything works at all. Ideally, an individual from the company shows the new hire around and explains policies and procedures. Yet it isn’t uncommon for a new employee to still have questions. By having a Knowledge Base, new employees become more self-reliant on figuring out how things work without feeling lost. In addition, creating a Knowledge Base that is easily accessible is key to its overall success with new hired as well as employees. According to the Bamboo HR study, 56% of new hires expect a mentor or buddy within the first week on-board. As a result, a Knowledge Base can reduce the time spent supervising new employees.

3. Establish Contact

An easy way to make a new employee feel welcome is to introduce yourself or the IT department. You can do this automatically through email, with the help of your IT solution. Otherwise, you can do it in person. A new hire will want to set up passwords, connect to the printer and access their inbox. By establishing a means of communication, the new employee won’t wait until it’s urgent to ask for help. This will also help the employee feel more comfortable in the unfamiliar environment.

The hiring process can be long and tedious, but the job isn’t done once the hire steps in the building. Although HR usually helps new employees acquainted, IT can have systems to ensure on-boarding employees is smooth.
